Founded in 1958, the Nottingham University Society of Change Ringers, is the student-run body for promoting campanology (the ringing of church bells) within the University of Nottingham.
We practice every Tuesday at 7:00pm in term time. This is in hope to make it for Sunday at 10am.
We host socials, sometimes even including handbells.
Go to the pub, and drink measurable amounts of alcohol. No pressure if you don't!
In summer, but also during the year we will go on ringing outings. Recent summer tours include Liverpool, Lincolnshire and Surrey.
We participate in the Crawford Cup each year.
We also host a formal dinner once per year, with past and current students. It even includes a ceilidh.
Do I need to be strong?
Being strong is not a requirement.
Do you ring the bells in the Trent building?
We do not ring the bells in the Trent Building, these are automated. We ring the bells at All Saints' Church, Radford.
Do you need to be religious?
We do not practice or require religion. Even though you are situated within the confines of christianity, you do not need to pledge alliance to the cause.
Hello, I'm Scruffy.
All Saints' is my permanent residence, and has been for a long time. I don't do much ringing myself, but from my position within the ringing chamber I get to witness everyone else do so.
As the oldest mascot, I get to take on senior responsibilities such as attending the annual NUSCR dinner and following NUSCR on tour.
In order to leave our mark, a small plastic duck is placed in every tower that NUSCR visits. The interactive duck map (IDM) shows every duck that we know of. As you can see, we get around.
As you can see from this website, NUSCR is not just about some ringing bells. By joining NUSCR you are joining a community, not just in itself, but with other ringers from further afield.
We always enjoy having visitors, so why not give us a try? Our experienced subjects can can teach how to ring, so no prior experience is required.
